HOW TO CONTROL HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

WHAT IS HYPERTENSION?
Blood circulates through blood vessels and supplies oxygen and nourishment to each and every cell of the body.This blood is pumped by heart and heart exerts a force on the walls of arteries.This is known as bloood pressure.Thus blood pressure is essential to keep the blood circulating in the body.But when this pressure becomes high its called high blood pressure or hypertension.
The instruement used to measure the blood pressure is called Sphygmomanometer.Bloood pressure has two types- Systolic pressure-the highest pressure reached when heart pumps blood in arteries and
 diastolic pressure-  the pressure between two beats.When a person has got high blood pressure,it means that heart has to exert greator force to pump[ almost same quantity of blood with in the same time due to which blood pressure gets elevated then normal]
CAUSES OF HYPERTENSION:-
The most important causes of hypertension are as under.
Heredity
Diabetes
Mental stress.
Obesity
Faulty life style.
Excessive intake of salt.
Smoking
Alcohol
Diet rich in saturated fats.
Tea,Coffee,cold drinks(having Caffiene).

HOW BLOOD PRESSURE RISES?
Blood pressure rises because
1..Antherosclerosis:- It is hardening and narrowing of arteries due to deposition of cholestrol on the walls of arteries.
2..Loss of elasticity of arteries with the increase of age.
3..Decrease of kidney function and endocrine glands.
RISKS ASSOCAITED WITH HYPERTENSION
(I) Heart Attack:-Hardening   and narrowing of arteries due to deposition of cholestrol on the walls of arteries can make coronary artry so narrow which may get totally blocked.This leads to the heart attack.
(II) Brain Haemarrhage:-Antheroslerosis makes blood vessels brittle.Brittle brain artry ruptures due to high blood pressure and leads to bleeding in the brain(Brain Haemarrhage or stroke). It may lead to the paralysis of some parts of the body.
(III) Kidney ailments:-Kidneys cannot function during hypertension.Therefore salts toxins get accumulated in the body.High B.P gradually destroys cells of kidney.
(III)..Eyes are also one of the organs under the attack in high B.P.
SYMPTOMS OF HIGH B.P
The common symptoms associated with hypertension are as under
1..Sleeplessness.
2..Dizziness.
3..Aches and pain in arms,shoulder region,legs,back etc.
4..Flashed face on exertion.

Following measures should be taken to control hypertension.
1..Weight loss:-
B.P falls 1.5mmHg for every kg of weight loss.
2..Reduction of salt intake:-Salt intake shouldn't exceed 5-6gms daily. Potassium salt should be taken instead of sodium salt.
3..Water makes blood thinner.So its advisable ti drink plenty of water.
4..Physical exercise like running,cycling etc helps to reduce the B.P.
5..Eggs,ghee,butter,cream,biscuits,cake,chocolate etc are rich sources of saturated fats . Therefore intake of these foods must be restricted.
6..Minerals like Calcium,Potassium and Magnesium have been found to reduce B.P.
Lemon,Banana,Peas,Potato,Tomato,Cauliflower,Sprouts and Oranges are good source of these minerals and therefore must be used frequently.
7..Fruits and vegetables rich in fiber (Apple,Banana,Orange,Potato,Carrot,Tomato,Cabbage,Beans)must be taken in abundance. Solid fiber binds dietary cholesterol and excrets it out of body.
8..Vitamins like vitamin C (Ascarbic acid),Vitamin B3(Naicin) and vitamin E are helpful in reducing B.P.

Coffee cantains alkoliods like caffeine which is a psychoactive drug of great power.It is similar to cocaine(an addictive drug).Its a strong drug and a potential health hazard.It may cause psychological disturbances when taken in excessive doses. The caffeine present in coffee effects the higher cerebral or psychic centres.Thus we get addicted to coffee like we get addicted to other harmful drugs.
